peace and war

The other morning on my commute past my old neighborhood, I had a flashback to simpler days on my bike loaded down with newspapers. Delivering to a hundred homes or so, in my area. The only worries back then were the hills ahead and the weather forecast. Well there was another worry. I was out delivering papers because with the passing of my Dad finances were tight indeed.

But this isn’t about that part even though his birthday this coming Monday was the reason I looked over that way. It’s the feeling of being on a bike for an hour or so in the quiet of the morning with the exception of the wildlife and occasional dog chasing me. It was a very peaceful job. And it taught me every job has its ups and downs. But to also appreciate the not so obvious ones.

I’m not coming out in this cold.

The days of paperboys are gone. Hell the days of papers in the driveway may be numbered except for a precious few. But I will always look back at the first job as something of a great experience. It taught me about hard work every day, planning, people and the amount of pay not being the total worth of a job.

I’m going to borrow something my friend told me the other day. I found it accurate for these times.

“Government of the Rich People, By the Rich People, For the Rich People”

Which means to me Greed has won or is at least winning now. As I’ve predicted before if we continue down this path we will have civil war again.

If you think we have some extremest in this country before. Wait till people die because of healthcare changes. Think of a parent that has to watch a child die, or a loved one who can’t afford care for one of many diseases or some other condition. Note to those governing us at the moment, be careful what you wish for, karma is a bitch.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
