Saturday salutations

Nothing like seeing the sun come up in the morning. I get the feeling that isn’t a part of most people’s days. Too bad because it’s a great way to start the day and provide some motivation and inspiration. It’s easy to see it during the work week but even on the weekends I enjoy rising early for them. And of course on vacation there is a quiet to that part of the day that you won’t get at the beach during the day or evening.

So today I just stood outside and breathed the cool morning air. I thought about a friend whose husband and daughter are in the area of that storm in Texas and I’m glad to hear they are OK. Might be a good day to make a donation to the Red Cross. Its heartbreaking to see communities torn apart by events like this. So appreciate the beautiful weather, we have here in the great state of Maryland today.

Climb up in that old Ford or whatever your wheeling around in and take a ride. Take someone with you. Turn off the devices, open the windows or if you’re like me, put the top down and soak up some rays and sights.

Then again some boating sounds nice, to be out fishing on a cool summer day like today, is pure joy. I have a friend on the mend in Florida who is chomping at the bit to get out with a rod in hand. And I got to admit, I’ve got the itch again either to catch some giant rocks in the bay or maybe a tuna down south.

Well that was a nice stroll into fantasy land. Now I have to get back to the outside for chores and then some baseboard sanding later. Such is life.

  1. Thank you Mike for all your well wishes and support. I feel like you and I have a special bond thanks to our battles with deadly illness. I now can take time to enjoy the stillness of early mornings. For months after your battle I could sense its impact through your writing. Today I can understand your renewed care and concern for your family and the way you view life. I find myself overwhelmed at times emotionally having narrowly escaped death. Like yourself I am consumed with gratitude, for what HE has done for the two of us. I also have discovered a deeper love for my wife and family, I am a blessed man see how HE uses all things for good, and illness meant for my destruction has backfired and spurned a deeper love for family and friends.
