What alternative career paths have you considered or are interested in? – Asks the daily writing prompt.

Ah the 2nd year of retirement is almost complete, and my second career is in progress. Slow but moving forward. I’m getting back to the interest I had in my first and only semester in college. Applied Art and Design and Photography if my memory is right on the major/minor combo.

I’ve also added learning to be a writer to the mix. I’ve thought about buying a drum kit but that wouldn’t go over with my better half or the neighbors. I’m always working on my driving skills so maybe Autocross racer. Who knows what else I’ll pick up along the way.

I’m enjoying being Papa while the grandchildren are in their early years. When they get to high school age and beyond the time with them dwindles, I’m told. I hope I’m around to see those years also.

What alternative career paths have you considered or are interested in? – A serious question from the Daily Writing prompt.

I’m finally doing what I want in life and I’m not sure I would call it a career yet because it’s just getting off the ground this year. Having retired from a lifetime in the Newspaper business I’m pursuing the life of an artist.

I want to create a body of work that I’m pleased with and that others enjoy. But that sounds like an end goal and the fun is in the journey. I’m learning each day and expanding my toolset and the media I work with. I’m trying to open my mind creatively which is a task in itself.

I was interested in this path coming out of high school but a real paying job became the priority quickly and I set this desire aside for 5 decades. Now I’m Rocking & Rolling. Being my boss is GREAT. We get along just fine.
