Nothing like a day off in the middle of the week. Don’t know why but I was still up early. I know most people like to sleep in when they get some extra time and don’t have to rise early and fire out but I’ve always gotten up earlier maybe than I even do when I’m working. I like to savor every minute of free time I have. Yeah I burn the candle at both ends but I got to admit it has allowed me to fit a lot more in my life than I would have if I had embraced sleep.

So as I started this day at the crack of dawn I’ll be going well into the night. Yeah maybe a short nap in between but its summer and there are things to be done. And those things include living and experiencing life.

So pushing health issues to the back of the mind today and going to live a normal life which means relaxing, enjoying some good music later this evening, a dinner with my wife and friends. A warm summer evening. Now that’s a day and a half if you ask me.

I don’t know what my fixation is lately with boats. I look at them intently the past few years. Probably because I remember many good times on the water with family and friends so it’s just my mind flashing back I guess.

Guess I’m going to have to put that thought of owning a boat on the back burner not that it wasn’t far down the list anyway. I’ll settle with getting a chance to try those kayaks I have in my basement and our fishing trips.

But in the near future I’m trying to make some judgments about travel for our family. It’s actually a fun process. I’ve never been much of a traveler with the exception of local I would say. There are so many options in this country alone. Hopefully it will be all 6 of us so I’ll have a diverse set of interest to appeal to. And I hope to be successful in meeting them all.

So its time to crawl out of my local comfort hole and explore new territory outside the great state of Maryland. Early candidates are San Francisco, New Orleans, San Diego, Yosemite, Miami, Charleston and some Island destinations. All I know is that it has been overdue but the timing now also seems perfect. Both of my children have married or about to marry the love of their lives. Were at a point where doing something like this won’t break the family. We are all young and healthy enough to enjoy it. Well 4 of the 6 are young and my wife always looked far younger than her years so it’s the good-looking troops and the old man bringing up the rear.

No problem with that as long as I’m along for the ride. I do know I have to get at least one new lens before going anywhere and maybe two. Those old Nikon AF ones from the 90’s have got me started, but now its time to get some good glass in front of me.

So as we kick off this last holiday weekend of the summer, get out and enjoy the water, wind, sun, family and friends. Life is short, soak up as much as you can.

Sorry about the randomness of my post lately. My mind is chewing on a lot of information, so I’ll get more focused with my writing soon.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
