The perfect space

You get to build your perfect space for reading and writing. What’s it like? So asks the daily writing prompt.

In some ways I’ve built what I think are my perfect spaces for reading and writing and they are my home. My office serves as my writing station. I work at my fathers old Redwood desk. I can take a few steps and be outside the back door looking at woods and wildlife. Or look out the side window to my fenced deck area. My back door also has windows so daylight is nice. The office is filled with photos of my favorite people and mementos of times gone by.

For reading I have both my hammock and deck with a lounge chair. But I also do a lot of reading on the computer keeping up with blogs. I will never get used to using a smartphone for that. Maybe an iPad someday. I’m hoping to become an avid book reader so I’m guessing I’ll be testing out a lot of places I haven’t in the past.

Now that I’m changing jobs this question has made me think if these are the perfect spaces for both of those task. The first thing I need to do is clean up the office so its a more effective and functional area to write that inspires. Next I need to improve the lighting and then redo the flooring. A more comfortable office chair would also be nice.

My perfect space for reading is outside on a warm summer day.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
