Looking Up

A change of perspective is always good from time to time. In one month I’ve had a huge change in perspective in many ways.

The first would be a change of professions. I’ve moved out of IT work and into the creative fields of Photography, Writing and other arts like carving, drawing and painting. I work on these every day now. They are my new work and love.

Changing how I take care of myself physically and mentally are underway. I’m maintaining a healthy weight and adding exercise to the equation. Doctors visits and tests are being honored. I’m getting better rest.

Having looked at reality a little harder I also feel a greater sense of urgency given my age and history. And that I’m using as daily inspiration to learn to do things professionally and even better than I once did for someone else.

I realize it might not be instant. I’ve got a lot to learn and a ton of work to do before I might get it figured out and right, but that day will come.

Things change, people change, we change.

Having exited night shift work my schedule is much more aligned with my better half’s. I love it but I can tell she appreciated the time to herself sometimes. But not having to be quiet while I slept in the mornings is a plus for her.

Freedom to pick and choose what day to do things and what time without someone else dictating a substantial part of the week is like having chains removed.

I think my friends are still adapting to the change of me no longer in the daily grind shoulder to shoulder with them. And its got their wheels turning about retirement.

As we age relationships change. I hear discussions of moves among friends and family. Even grandchildren grow up.

I change and I’m not sure how that will affect me and others. I’m trying to embrace it because I think the saying goes “the only constant in the world is change”

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • January is not ending with my original plan. But Thursday starts a positive streak of production, I hope.
  • Listening to my body, instead of ignoring it and punishing it. Hope its not too little too late.
  • Going to be smarter in how I use my time in February.
  • I’m going to finish one goal of reading a book this month. Next month will be a challenge, a longer book and shorter month to complete it.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
