Some seasons ended last evening. Some in very disappointing fashion being close to the Dance but not getting that invite. The team I follow has been on the outside looking in a few years. Sometimes in extremely tough fashion.
From the NCAA history section – The NCAA tournament field grew to 16 teams in 1951, doubled to 32 in 1975 and expanded to its current size of 64 teams in 1985. An opening-round game was introduced in 2001. Three more games were added to that round in 2011 for the inaugural First Four to take the tournament to its current size of 68 teams.
The 1975 expansion was partially due to one of The University of Maryland’s best teams ever, being denied entry to the tournament despite being the #3 rated team in the country. Back then only the ACC Champion from the ACC Tournament went. And that year it was NC State who eventually became the National Champion.
While I feel bad for the schools that were left off, but let the games begin. There were a few this year who shouldn’t be in (North Carolina), but fate is what it is.
As a basketball junkie this is the fix season. One and done. Drama every game. Emotions on display. Great basketball.
Pools are nice but the real excitement is in the game.

I’m a fan of three teams, Pitt (who did not get in), West Virginia (who should have the spot occupied by UNC) and Iowa State. I graduated from Pitt and WVU. My brother graduated from ISU. But, as you say, let the games begin.

Too bad Iowa State won’t be at full strength.

Those injuries have plagued them lately.
