Part of our hearts

I’m shedding a few tears while typing this post because my son’s first pet passed away today. The joy that dog gave both my daughter in-law and my son is beyond compare. It pains us both to see them in such despair.

We loved her and it hurts very badly right now.

We would always watch her when they take vacations, and she would always visit when they came. She was so sweet and loving. She brought me a lot of joy and love. As soon as she came in our house, she would use her nose to guide me to the kitchen and stand in front of the freezer till I got the ice cream out.

I loved how adapt she was at opening presents. Gently tearing the wrapping paper away.

She was a rescue, and she certainly rescued our families’ hearts.

We got to say goodbye to her this morning, and the hurt will be with us for a while. That’s the way it is when you lose a love.

I’ve got to finish a carving for them soon. And I’m going to put together a photo book for them and all the shots I have of her over the years.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.

  1. It’s hard to lose a pet (or grandpet in this case) is hard and my heart goes out to you and yours. As hard as it is though, I hope your son & daughter in law take comfort in knowing they gave a rescue pet a forever home, which is a kindness of a special kind).

  2. Many condolences on the loss of a cherished family member.

  3. I am so sorry, Mike. Losing a loving pet is very hard. I can only hope that time eases your grief.
