Good morning

In editing some photos this morning, I ran across this image just as I was contemplating either a pop tart or piece of cinnamon toast for breakfast.

The waffles, strawberries, and grapes look more appealing than that pop tart in the foil wrapper. Saturday I’ll be cooking a big breakfast for the family. Well, I’ll be helping with the bacon, sausage, toast and muffins, preparation and cleanup. My better half is making the main dish.

I hope you all are having a good breakfast this morning. Photo by Mike Hartley

I almost didn’t recognize this as our kitchen. It’s got to be almost 10 years old. The table is gone, the walls are not green, and I know the floor has changed. My better half redesigned our kitchen, and it’s beautiful. I know she wants to get into the basement, but I’ve kept her at bay so far.

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • Feeling recharged after seeing my best friends last night.
  • Looks like an opportunity to get some snow pictures coming up.
  • Managing to increase my exercise time this week.
  • What an embarrassment that speech was yesterday by Trump. Then again aren’t they all.
  • This coming week I won’t be going outside without my gloves on.

Good morning

I’m no food expert. I know what I like, and I like to eat. And food doesn’t move so it’s an easy target to photograph. The trouble is my own discipline. I see food and I eat it. So, my goal this year is to practice patience in eating, to capture some more food shots. And while doing that share some of our favorite spots.

Breakfast Favorites

Ah, I wish I was on my way to the ocean again. Because then I could stop at a little diner, we like on the way to the shore like we did last week. The Easton Diner is our go to stop. It has the old time feel, service and food are great and fast.

This was my bacon and cheese omelet. And yes, that is my unhealthy white toast with butter.

I think I’ll hit a local breakfast spot this week. My better half recently went to Cozy Cafe and Bakery on Main Street in Ellicott City and liked it a lot. But first I think I’ll hit an old spot just across the bridge called The Trolley Stop.

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • I’ve kept a healthy weight most of my life. I did get sloppy for about 15 years though.
  • Up late for the game and up way early with the body complaining. I’ll pay for that later I suspect.
  • I can’t believe it’s below freezing this morning on April 8th. And with the wind it feels like 19 degrees. Way too cold for this time of year.
  • I’ve always wondered if my dad would be proud of me.
  • I never thought I’d have to think about becoming a prepper but some signs of society norms falling makes me wonder.

Breakfast

Do I miss the vacation breakfast, you bet I do. We began the first day by stopping at a favorite across the bridge called the Easton Diner. Great food, great service, old-time feel. Many booths and tables are available in addition to counter service.

I used to stop at a local place called the Forest Diner on Rt 40 in Ellicott City with my son after we had haircuts together. Whoops, I’m reminiscing, but that’s what us old guys do.

Anyway, this is one of our go-to for the morning meal on the way to the beach. Pass up Cracker Barrel and Panara hit the da Diner.

OK, the next one has been a family favorite for years and that is Happy Jacks Pancake House. We had to stop by for breakfast and pay our respects to the staff for the loss of their owner. As always great service and food.

Another favorite but you really got to get there early or be very patient is Barn 34. I love their food. Nice atmosphere also.

But old and faithful and GOOD also is a place that has staying power like Laytons on 16th.

OK, I didn’t get out of town without a doughnut from the Fractured Prune.

This morning I’m back to work. So the nut bar and a bottle of water will take the place of the omelets and pancakes and waffles and bacon and sausage and home fries and fresh fruit. When I retire breakfast is going to be a ritual of good food.

Time for some sleep, been up for over 24 hours. Catch you all later today.
