Hard choice

Dogs or cats? – Now there is a simple question from the daily writing prompt that could incite some real debate.

I love them both but probably cats. Only because dogs need a lot more time and attention. Not that I didn’t lavish both on cats, but dogs are on another level. Of course there are great rewards with that extra time.

The companionship dogs have with people is something special. I’ve seen it over and over. They are so entuned to their humans it’s unique.

But the balance cats have had with me that seems to work best. They are very loving animals but also like their time like I like my time. Example-when we watch our sons dogs, I feel guilty if I leave them home for 30 minutes to go out for an errand. Don’t feel that with a cat, unless I’m going on vacation.

My first pet was special because it was the last gift from our Dad. And 60 years later after this picture I still get the same joy from pets. It’s been a great treat in life to have pets. Photo by Mom

Dogs or cats? – So ask the Daily Writing prompt.

I’ve always been a cat person. I do love dogs though. All my friends have dogs and my son has two that we watch often.

Pets have given me so much joy in life. But their time here is so short it, the pain of losing them over time builds up. The last few years have been the first without a pet. My better half can’t stand the pain anymore of losing those 4 legged family members.

I would still have them but I have to respect her also. And I have to admit it’s nice after all these years to have a little more freedom. If we get out someplace on a day trip and want to stay over we can easily.

So I live through loving my family and friends’ pets now. I’ve even thought about putting in some time at the local rescue/adoption facility.
