Reality sets in

Vacations are a special time that I cherish. Always have and always will. It’s that time with friends and family, that weight of responsibility for the professional part of your life put on hold. No brutal commute, nobody trying to kill you on the roads, except for the ride to and from the beach destination. Ours was Bethany Beach and I love that place.

Just like that boat in line with the sunset last night above, my spirit feels aligned, despite the a-hole who tried to remove me from my spot on the highway with his F-250 because he thought because he had the bigger vehicle I would just dive out of his way in fear. Well didn’t work out for you to well did it? OK, off with that negative karma, but that is the kind of daily crap I missed out on and it felt great.

It was nice to be able to have a conversation with someone and not feel rushed. It was nice to have time to meet new people and spend more time with very close friends and of course my better half. It was nice to unwind and laugh and think and photograph and write and walk and ride a bike. To eat a meal with no rush. Hell to eat each meal of the day with no rush. I have trouble getting a meal or two in a week that doesn’t feel rushed or isn’t book ended by something or more likely being done in the middle of a meal.

I’ve started to exercise and I’m going to see if I can keep it up. Work and exercise aren’t compatible things thus far in my life. Going to see if I can make that combo co-exist. Also going to try to maintain this relaxed and unstressed frame of mind. Well I can only get so relaxed so some of you might think that my relaxed state is still a stressed out one but believe me, I’m feeling good about things and positive about that coming days ahead.

Random Thoughts

I went to Candy Kitchen and only got a 1/4 lb of fudge and a 1/4 lb of fruit runts candy and made them both last all week. New milestone. I even shared them.

I’m happy with a camera in my hand.

It’s good to have a partner that will wrestle the tub of Fishers popcorn out of your clutches before you eat the whole thing.

There is no bed and pillow like the home bed and pillow.

Maryland crabs are the best and when you go to a place that does them justice is a feast to behold.

OK, I know, enough about food. Let me move on to drinks. I’m not a big bar person anymore but good lord, where have all these specialty and mixed drink combos come from.

You know a week without much TV is a pretty good thing also. Still kept up with events but didn’t waste a ton of time with the idiot box.

It feels good to have a streak going here also. Only missed 3 days so far this month and hope to finish out strong. Maybe October can get me in that daily publishing mode. The chance to take and publish an image or thought that hits a cord with others and me is a strong draw.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.

  1. Mike, that is quite the Candy Kitchen accomplishment! Offspring3 and I went in to CK on vacation last month, and only bought gifts, nothing for us. Times have changed!

  2. Mike, I really enjoyed reading about your vacation; especially the part about not being rushed. I am just beginning to experience the not rushed life style. I hope I can maintain the relaxed lifestyle when I heal up. I too experience larger vehicles that attempt to bully me out of there way. Good luck with the exercise program you started.
