Sustainment

I kind of set a goal for myself this month to post each day. I missed one day, so the goal wasn’t complete, but I’m proud of the effort. Because really there are several improvements that went along with that goal. Each day I work on this blog, it does several things for me if I use it correctly. Accountability, Motivation, Satisfaction, Pride, Thoughtfulness, Planning, Learning, Progress and Peace.

The mist of morning is soon replaced with whistles and the sounds of contact. Practice Practice Practice.

Sort of like the feeling of something I should have started doing decades before but even with that pain of lost opportunity, I on a path now that at least makes a lot of things possible. The positive feelings I’m getting from doing more writing and reading. I’m picking the camera a bit more also and loving it. While I still need massive improvements in that area that only practicing each day will I improve, I’m doing it. I used some older photos and new shots this last month. Was actually proud of a few of them. So maybe in September I can try to have fresh photos each day also.

Proper Rest. I finally slapped myself and said I’m going to be in an early grave if I don’t start sleeping better. While that will not completely happen with the work schedule I have I must make the hard effort to stay healthy and do better when I can. For instance there were two days this week where I stayed in bed for 7 hours straight. I can’t remember doing that but one or twice this year maybe. Didn’t sleep all the way through those 7 hours but my body and mind felt better.

Its funny, the song “Time” from Pink Floyd just came on as I was finishing this piece. And that is what it comes down to. How do we all use the very limited time we have here? I’m trying to do better with mine each day now instead of coasting or wasting it.

Oh and a happy holiday weekend to all. Not the way I planned on it starting at 5:30pm today.

Is this what they mean on the weather forecast when they say “Driving Rain”?

Random Thoughts of the Day

FOOOBALL Season is here. Hurrah. Basketball is still my favorite.

I have a new goal. It’s never having to buy a larger suit than the one I got today.

Good police, Good priest, Good doctors, Good businessmen, Good politicians, Good coaches Good lawyers and Good teachers, Good writers and any other job are all the worse for the few that act wrongly in their professions. We as people have to remember these few don’t represent the many. But we have to rely more heavily now than ever on these same professionals to call out those who aren’t doing right. Institutions are protecting these few people and ruining our impressions of those who serve well above the call of duty to us. And at the same time ruining the motivations and attitudes of those who work so hard to uphold the highest standards each day of their careers. We have to be harsh on those who betray the values of the professions we so deeply rely on. And if institutions won’t change from above then we need to change them from below and from within them. As a friend tells me, “you’ve been managing upwards for years”. So lets all do our part and make things better.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
