How do you plan your goals? – The Daily writing prompt inquires.
I make lists, lots of lists. I start with major goals and work my way down to what I do daily. I found long ago breaking things down into tasks made the goal more attainable and fun to get there. I also look at them often and review them to keep things moving forward.
My hobby goals have gotten a lot of attention this year. These lists are extensive. So I’m always challenged by something. If I get writer’s block I pick up the cameras. If I get burnt out on editing and printing I move to the workroom and pick up the Dremel tool. But I’m working on that daily list for each and that ties back to an overall goal.
There are the home/yard goals that are sometimes planned and sometimes not.
We do financial goals together. We discuss expenses, we make decisions. Been doing it a long time and it’s worked out. Things like sending the kids to college don’t happen without some goals being set.
The goal to be available for children and grandchildren in an important one for us. And doing that is a lot easier now being retired.
Spontaneous plans are fun. Like someone hearing about a new restaurant to try and then executing a trip to it. But it fits into the goal of experiencing new cuisines.
Travel has been a goal for us this year. We created a list of places to possibly visit and sit down every month and plan some day or overnight trips. We each do research and discuss our lists of things we want to do where to stay, and other logistics.
That way the trip is fun.
I started making goals for myself way too late in life. Start on your dreams early. Life goes by too fast and before you know it time for your goals is short.
Review goals often. What started the year as a goal isn’t that important and has been replaced by a better goal.
Allow yourself some sense of accomplishment when completing.
