What’s the hardest decision you’ve ever had to make? Why? – The Daily Writing prompt asks this morning.
Wow, that is a tough one. The first several that came to mind I can’t share. And thinking about those things left me very stressed in just a few minutes. Mainly because the hardest decisions are deeply personal. And sometimes involve those close to you.
Life is full of very difficult choices and decisions. Simple things like the choice just to be happy or not, we make every day. To critical things, like life and death choices.
I was talking to a friend last night about another friend who had just put their pet down. Something I’ve faced a few times. It’s gut-wrenching but in many ways very humane. And each time I wonder why we aren’t more compassionate for people.
After watching my mother hold on way too many days after a stroke took her. I thought and still think it’s both cruel to the person and the family in the way many terminal cases are handled. So I found an organization working to change this in Maryland called Compassion & Choice who represent my thoughts on the issue.
As for recalling a specific situation I can share I’d rather not go down that road on a holiday that I’m hoping to share a very good time with family and friends today and the next several days. Why? Because it’s painful as most of the hardest decisions are for most people.
And if your hardest decisions have not been painful, be thankful.
