How have your political views changed over time? – A dangerous question by the Daily Writing prompt in today’s climate of very strong feelings.
I wouldn’t say as much changed, as evolved. I consider myself more center than to either extreme. I still vote for who I think is the best person for the job based on what they say, ideas, do and results. Not the political party, they belong to.
I’ve felt at times there really isn’t a good option. As many felt in the last 3 elections. And not just on a national level.
I look at the issues important for the overall success in my view of the world. Trying to find a candidate who matches all the buttons people want pushed is impossible. So I pick several that are important to me and look for that match.
I’m not convinced the two-party system is the model we need moving forward. When I first started following politics I was disgusted with the influence and special interest lobbyists that drive a lot of decisions, instead of what might be best for the people. And I am even more so today.
I’m not satisfied with either party. The Republican party now seems to have swung so far to the extreme right and has a leader who wants to be King instead of President. And I’m still disgusted by January 6th today as I was that day.
But then the Democrats screwed up on the border, student loan fiasco, and other issues the last 4 years.
I guess the thing that changed over time is before I didn’t really worry which party won before. I kind of had the belief there were enough good people in government to keep the train on the tracks. Now I have grave concerns.

I share your sentiments. All of them.
