Asking myself about my sports fandom.

Fan? Photo by Mike Hartley

Sometimes you’re a fan for life. For instance, my love of the Yankees and Maryland basketball teams. That won’t change. Sometimes things change and change a committed fan a distant one. My example would be the Washington Redskins; we followed them in the 70s and 80s but through a series of bad ownerships loyalty to that team faded. But I’m interested in them again with new ownership and an exciting QB.

I’m a fan of tennis but of no one in particular. I used to be a NASCAR fan but when Senior was killed and Junior retired, I lost all interest. Which was strange because I was a fan before them also.

I’m a fan of the Olympics, but only every 4 years.

I’ve always followed and liked the Green Bay Packers but I’m not a rabid fan.

I’m a fan of kids playing sports. Watching joy and excitement and love of a game is nice.

March Madness has always had a strong grip on me. It’s probably the biggest sporting event between my group of friends and my son.

I was losing interest in baseball till the rule changes which are great and has revitalized my interest in the game.

The NBA has a lot of ego problems. Great basketball but too many head cases. But I’ve always followed the league and have been a longtime Laker fan.

I’ve gotten into Formula 1 and Drag racing recently. I used to watch a ton of Indy car racing when I was younger.

I was a big fan of Thurmond Munson, Len Bias and Dale Earnhardt. All those sudden deaths affected me.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
