Write about your first name: It’s meaning, significance, etymology, etc. So asks today’s Bloganuary prompt.
My first name is Mike – Michael on the license. Sometimes I think some of my nicknames are my first name when with friends. I love the name Papa and Dad when called and I hope it never changes to Mike when a child or grandchild calls me as they age.
Anyway I don’t have much interest in this question but will explore to learn. First I’ve never looked into the meaning of my name.
Michael – Meaning: “Who is like God” or “Gift from God.” Gender: Michael is most often a masculine name but can also be used for girls. Origin: Hebrew. Pronunciation: Mye-Kehl. So says Lord Google.
Okay, that was interesting finding the meaning of my name.
I see that Michael was rated the 26th most popular baby name (so says thebump.com) and by their chart it looked as if it was a popular name for decades but has really fallen off in recent years.
To be honest I had to go look up what etymology was first. So the answer for Michael is it’s over 2,500 years old as a boys name and is one of the oldest names still in common use today.
Learning is cool. But enough of this exercise, there is more to post and photograph today.
