Every once in a while I try to take a portion of the day to think to myself. Usually on a walk, but sometimes just around the home when I’m alone. When I was younger with children the time was every Saturday or Sunday for 3 hours on the lawnmower. Just the hum of the motor and my thoughts. When it was pre-children days it was on a basketball court by myself. I would run drills over and over till I worked out issues. Sometimes on my commute which is a long one. Radio off, just the road and my thoughts.
And even with all that time and thought I’ve still done the wrong things from time to time. At least I’ve always known what I was doing was wrong and I try not to repeat that often.
Having a few minutes to think things through, make good choices and develop the courage to stick to the right decision. For we all have to live with ourselves and unless you spend some time reflecting and thinking on moving forward, it’s a tough road.
