Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you. So ask the Daily Writing prompt.
My first thought was that I have them fairly often, so recalling a specific one is tough. I was brought up in a time when almost all random encounters were met with some kind of greeting. A good afternoon or hello, good day, a smile and nod.
I used to pass the time some days walking the few blocks back and forth from the parking garage to work seeing how many people I could make eye contact with and smile.
Oh, just recalled one from last year that was nice. It was at the Endless Summer Cruise week in Ocean City. Along the boardwalk parade of hotrods, I was taking some photos. When an old Z28 1969 with a 302ci 4 speed in Fathom Green rolled by. It brought back memories being the first muscle car I ever rode in and the friend who passed of a brain tumor who drove it.
It was actually his brothers car, but he snagged it a few times and took us out. Anyway I think I must have let out an audible oh, and put my head down. A guy next to me says brings back some memories. I said some good and some sad. Where he added at our age, they come together a lot of times.
We stood there and talked cars as they rolled by for almost 2 hours. All the ones we drove, raced and friends had in our youth. How families, homes, educations changed our paths but our love for cars and driving never diminished.
All of a sudden we both looked at the time and had to get back to our loved ones. It was nice talking to a stranger who’s life was somewhat a parrell to my own, and probably many others there.
