What topics do you like to discuss? – The Daily Writing prompt inquires.

I like to discuss almost anything and everything. Life interests me and so does learning. Long ago I found out listening is an important skill. Therefore asking the right questions is key. So I’ll get into any discussion with the hope of learning or expanding my range of thought.

Cars and motorcycles. Photography and the arts. Exercise and sports. Food and cooking.

Family, children, and grandchildren. Music and movies. History and current events.

Management and labor. Technology, science, and Nature. Almost anything my better half brings up.

Hunger, poverty, wealth and greed. Writing and blogging. Love and compassion.

There are a few topics I shy away from or never start myself. Cancer is one of them. I will talk to others about it if they have a friend or loved one and be supportive if they bring it up. It scares the hell out of me and I don’t want to spend any waking moments giving it any more of my time than it has already taken from me.

I used to enjoy talking politics, but now I only discuss it with a few people. Same with religion. Not that I’m afraid of discussing them. But to me to discuss means both parties exchange thoughts and ideas. This requires speaking and listening. When one party is speaking only, and not listening, it’s not a discussion, it’s a lecture.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
