Sacrifice

What sacrifices have you made in life? – The Daily Writing prompt asked.

I’m kind of uncomfortable with this question today. Sacrifices are made without stating them. I started to think about some of them I’ve made and it would feel like bragging about something I made a conscious decision on and did from the heart.

I’ve made many sacrifices over time for family and friends because that is the right thing for people to do for each other. Some are monetary, some are time, some are compassion, and some are mentoring.

Some have been backbreaking. Some of them are just breaking.

A lot of them become routine, and you don’t feel it’s a sacrifice till you take a bigger picture view because they are done out of love.

Most all sacrifices are done, with appreciation not expected. It’s nice when significant sacrifices or ones over time, come with appreciation though. And sometimes it’s hurtful when they don’t.

Oh, I almost forgot about the sacrifices I used to make for the job. Holy crap, that was a whole other category.

Anyway, if you’re not making sacrifices for people, you’re not living. Just choose wisely about who you make them for.

And always remember those who have made great sacrifices before and for you.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.

  1. H hun.. i truly believe you are confusing sacrifice with ones true purpose in life.. these things you do now, without the things you think you gave up, its a stride of life. Its what you were meant to do.. dont give up on it all.. this is your way.

  2. So true. Bragging and obligated come to mind, when we ‘talk about the sacrifices we’ve made’.
