Memorial Day

Please think about the meaning of this day. Please take a few seconds, or minutes to maybe add a prayer or just say thank you to those who made the greatest sacrifice.

I shouldn’t have turned on the TV this morning being it’s Memorial Day. It’s not that I don’t love the segments memorializing those who gave their lives in defense of their country. It’s that they sometimes play Taps during those segments and that causes some flashbacks for me that are very emotional.

Hearing that at 9 years old for my father was one of those traumatic moments in my life. I purposely only go to Arlington on Sundays so I don’t have to hear that being played at services they do on other days because it triggers something that takes me a good while to regain my composure.

Tomorrow’s date is also the day my mother passed so I’ll be dabbing at my eyes watering early this week.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
