I’m finding it hard to measure progress in retirement. But I hesitate to bring structure to my hobbies and fun fearing it might take some overall enjoyment and relaxation from them.
It’s easy to see progress on carvings, as I make prints and post to the blog or work on some writing projects. But at the same time, I wonder if I can do more if I add some old work techniques.
I enjoy being able to switch up working on various interests throughout the day. If I hit a writer’s block I pick up the Dremel tool. If I get tired of being covered in dust I shower put the top down on the car visit a local city and do some photography.
Of course that’s between chores and doing things with my better half. So progress seems to be made on many fronts by outward appearances.
I think about progress because I feel a strange sense of urgency to do as much as I can each day. Because it’s both fun, and rewarding, and the list of ideas and things I’d like to accomplish is very long.
So today I’ll be working into the wee hours of the morning hoping to stumble upon something that makes me smile.
