Meat Me

The Daily Writing prompt asks “What are your feelings about eating meat?” only 2 days after we have stuffed ourselves with turkey.

My feelings on eating meat have evolved. When I was younger I didn’t know eating too much of it was bad for you. So I modified as I learned. Nor did I consider the animals themselves even though I love animals. And I modified again.

I probably still eat too much meat during the summer months, but I have cut back significantly.

My true feelings about eating meat might not be real popular but they are what they are. I love eating meat. Bacon or sausage with a side of eggs. Steaks like a fillet or ribeye and juicy prime rib. Pork chops or pork loin roast. Rotisserie chicken, fried chicken or BBQ chicken. Baby back ribs, St Louis short ribs or lamb chops. Maybe some pastrami and corned beef piled high on rye. And of course, turkey this time of year.

2 bone in ribeyes and Yes they are that big. About an inch and a half at least. A 10 oz fillet also. Photo by Mike Hartley

Fortunately my better half is health conscious also and we eat fairly healthy with some meat mixed in here and there. And I have developed a good amount of discipline and don’t overdo it even when left to my own devices. There are exceptions maybe once or twice a year like the above photo shows.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
