Balls to the Wall

Sorry about the rude title but it’s a phrase our group uses about maximum effort. Sort of like “pedal to the metal” or “Full Bore” or “All OUT.” It’s just our groups nature, we go full tilt boogie through life.

When I Googled “Balls to the Wall” it returned something I didn’t know. – First attested in the 1960s in the context of aviation, in reference to ball-shaped grips on an aircraft’s engine controls (typically throttle, prop pitch and fuel mixture). Pushing these “balls to the wall” would put the aircraft at maximum thrust.

I think 2025 is going to be one of those years I put the pedal down. I had a good year in 24 but I could have accomplished more. I did let myself relax after pushing myself hard for a long time and I’m glad I took the break.

My goals are much clearer now a year after retirement. I’m glad I had a good plan going into it but now I can refine and refocus. And hopefully produce something more robust.

By working steadily through the year each day, I learned not only skills and techniques but more importantly the effort it’s going to take to keep this up and expand it to my vision. I learned that I liked to have the ultimate flexible schedule but that wasn’t always the most productive.

Photo Editing and Writing are time consumers. There might not be much of a way around that. Both could use more time to be honest to increase the quality here and on my display stuff.

I really got stronger the last few months on a few woodworking projects. That is a lot of fun because you can see your progress very clearly. I’ve been working on a pastel piece for 2 months now and I’m nowhere near done.

Sometimes when I think I’m done with a project I find something I’ve missed in previous shoots that need adding to, or I pay a fresh visit or maybe at a different time of season and have a whole new aspect to add to the subject.

I don’t know why I feel like I’m in a creative lul sometimes. It’s ridiculous, because there is endless possibilities.

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • You can tell the stress level of the general public by taking a drive.
  • Why can’t those drones fly over my house. I’d like some target practice. Hover low over my airspace at your own risk.
  • I love putting up Xmas lights. I have someone to keep me in check though.
  • The workout felt good today.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
