How do you balance work and home life? – A very deep question from the daily writing prompt. I thought Sunday was a day of rest. Talking about work doesn’t seem right.
I’ve never got a grip on work and home life balance. Most of the time work won out. Which means I cut sleep or fun or sometimes family short. I tried my best, but I know work won out sometimes when it shouldn’t have.
But you do what you got to do at times to maintain, move ahead, take advantage of an opportunity, go for a goal.
I stayed involved in kids activities. And help out at home, but I should have done more.
It’s a difficult thing to master. It’s like marriage, it’s never 50/50 all the time. It’s best if you talk about this as careers change over time.
Observations – It seems the most challenging time in people’s careers also comes at the same time as they are starting a family. And that balance is the most difficult during a person’s 20s, 30s and 40s years of age.
At times in life, you may be forced to draw a line. Some companies or bosses don’t give a damn about a work/life balance and if you have a life that is your problem. Luckily, I didn’t encounter but a few of these for short periods.
Just being recently retired I would say to a younger person, don’t cut life short. Yes, work hard and smart but don’t let work dictate life. It’s a tool to help you along in life.
