The daily writing prompt asking a question I think I answered long. What’s the story behind your nickname?

Instead of trying to describe what might be behind the one nickname I could share without offending people and pleading the 5th on several other racy ones I think I’ll share thoughts on nicknames.

I have a few for my better half. I really don’t have any for my children. Some groups of my friends are huge on nicknames. Others, not so much and some not at all.

I’m figuring a lot of nicknames are picked up in our youth. Though some could be born out of significant events anytime in life.

I’ve noticed some people are uncomfortable with nicknames. I guess I would be also if tagged with one that wasn’t flattering. Luckily the ones I know about aren’t bad.

I find it interesting for those who give themselves nicknames.

There are a lot of secret nicknames floating around out there I bet. For instance, I’m sure my better half has a few I might not be aware of.

Trying to live up to nicknames might not be the wisest thing.

In passing the other day I heard someone use the nickname of a close childhood deceased friend “Big Pete” and I turned immediately. Because there were only a couple of us who would use that with him.

I’m constantly assigning nicknames to bad drivers each time out.

The number of nicknames I come up with for the current President are endless.

Lots of our nicknames are preceded with military rank.

I’ll have to put a chapter in my book about nicknames being that is quite a colorful area of lots of my friendships.

I like that two of the three of my grandchildren already have nicknames.
