The daily writing prompt asks – What’s your favorite time of day?

That is a tough one because I really like all parts of the day. And the reason for that is because my schedule has always been all over the place so the time for enjoyment has moved all around the clock.

I once had a shift where I got off at 2 or 3am. Talk about having the roads and highways to yourself. I worked in DC at the time and that town is another thing at night. Both beautiful and dangerous. Looking down streets that are usually clogged with traffic and seeing no cars. Intersections filled with people only a few hours later empty except for the flashing walk/don’t walk lights.

Sometimes I’d just sit outside when I got home and listen to nothing but the sounds of nature. And maybe a cow mooing in the distance. And the times it snowed the quiet was incredible. Sometimes the only sound was the snow falling.

I guess my next favorite time of day is early morning like 6am – 9am. The last 10 years of my career before I retired, I got off work at 6am. And after an 11-12 hour shift, I was just so relieved to be able to relax.

At times I’d just take back roads home from work to unwind and at times stopping to watch the sunrise. Or just get home and sit and decompress. Being retired I still rise early so this is now exercising time and creative time. I feel fresh in the early morning and love to accomplish things and get the day’s plan outlined.

Not having to report to work any longer, my days are free so that is now becoming time with my better half who is also retired. And what’s not to like about that.

Evenings are great. The occasional happy hour with friends, great meals with my better half and sunsets.

Nights are great also. I love the evening skies and a full moon. Listening to the wind blow through the trees at night and the lightning bugs flashing randomly in front of you in every direction.

It’s usually time for a little rest but occasionally, there is the all-nighter.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
