Oh, being a techie this caught my eye. IBM sells it’s first compiler for the FORTRAN programming language.

FORTRAN changed my graduate school plans after my advisor pointed out that I was a way better computer programmer than I was a chemist. I think I can probably still recite Cat in the Hat from memory, and I am still known to yell, “A train, a train, a train, a train” when I see one passing close to our car.
