The daily prompt asks – If the salary was the same, what job would you be doing right now and why?

It is the job I’m doing right now. It doesn’t have a salary, and I love it. I’m retired and doing a variety of things and hobbies. And I’m not sure I would like to do the things I do now professionally or for a salary because that means someone else might be making decisions.

About how I use my time. About how and what I create. About what direction to go. About what they like versus what I like. Right now, I’m my only client and I only worry about what I can do and like.

When I was in my teens I thought about becoming a photographer. I did a lot of photography for my high school yearbook and some work after that in a few college classes, but I got a job at a newspaper chain at 18 years old and became a reproduction photographer and engraver in my first few years in the business.

I got to see what photographers had to do, working assignments other people came up with most of the time. Tight deadlines, constant running and always feeling like they were compromised in their work because of time and constraints of other ideas or selections of their work.

So, what I do is capture a bit of life, share it here and on the walls of my home and in prints I give family and friends. I’m trying to put together a few exhibits in the future. At times I paint or draw and other times I carve. I get to share my hobbies and interests with my grandchildren and see their interest in things bloom.

Yeah, it would be nice to recoup the money I spend on blogging, a photo site, printer supplies, computers, art supplies, tools and cameras. But if that meant, answering to someone else, no thanks, no matter the money.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
