Freebies

What job would you do for free? – That’s a tough question from the daily prompt.

I’m doing a few jobs for free now in retirement. I’m a photographer, artist and writer. In other words, a hobbyist.

I do all kinds of jobs for free each day. I play doorman whenever the opportunity presents itself. I guess I’ve worked free at grocery stores because I’ve helped old people load their cars with bags.

I’ve done landscaping for free by cutting neighbors yards for nothing when they have been down or away. I’ve been in the consulting business for some time now giving out free advice. Some people really should have listened to me.

I’ve been involved in free construction from time to time building decks, boat houses, sunrooms and more. I’ve been a free chauffeur to some inebriated friends.

I’ve been a free night watchman because I’m usually up most of the night and aware of what is going on while others sleep.

I hope to start a job for free next month. I won’t only be working for free I’ll be donating my car and gas to the effort. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I would play for the New York Yankees for Free

Got the Dream Job

The daily writing assignments wants to know – What’s your dream Job? – A little late for that question for this guy. I’m retired, but I’m still working hard in many ways. And I guess you could call it my dream job.

I’ve become my own little publisher here. I’m enjoying some photography and arts. I’m my own event coordinator and exercise mentor. During the warm months I’m a roadster driver with the top down.

I’m working hard on becoming a grandfather the grandchildren remember and admire. I’m studying the balance of exercise and challenges while acknowledging my age and not hurting myself.

A chef hat is occasionally worn, and I hope to add party host to the list of titles I’m working on.

I’m still playing landscaping crew and home handyman. I dream of subbing these out someday.

Fun work

List three jobs you’d consider pursuing if money didn’t matter. I answered this question last year in a post called Pursuing and it’s still the same answer this year.

I will add three things I’d like to pursue each day that I’ve been slack on starting since retirement last year.

  • Volunteer at local animal shelter.
  • Make someone else’s life better each day.
  • Mentor to my grandchildren.

4 Free

What job would you do for free? – Interesting question from the daily writing prompt.

I guess the ones I’m doing now. Amateur photog, blogger, artist and yardman and handyman. Don’t earn a dime from any of it. Probably couldn’t if I tried. And that’s fine with me also because I enjoy them.

Even though I don’t consider these things a job, I certainly put a lot of time and some money into them. Along with some very hard physical work on the yard and home ones.

Other things I’m thinking about doing for free if time allows. Working at the pet shelter, picking up trash while I’m out photographing nature, babysitter, chef, and writer are just a few off the top of my head.

Then again, beach bum always had a certain appeal to me.

Work Freebee

What job would you do for free? – The Daily Writing prompt wants to know this? But if I answer this, are people going to start calling me for these?

I’m too old to work for free anymore. But there is one job that I’ll continue to do for free and enjoy it. Watch my grandchildren.

These are some of the jobs, I’ve done for Free in the past. – When you have a lot of good friends, you work for free a lot.

Shovel my elderly neighbor’s driveways or mow their yards.

Replace a furnace.

Build a boat house.

Build a deck.

Cut out a wall and put in a sliding door.

Move people from home to home.

Open and winterize a pool.

Landscaping

Auto repair

Dog sitting

Now that I think about it, there isn’t much I haven’t done for free. It’s a good thing my employer never got wind of that stuff. I’m sure their first suggestion would have been, can we get on the bandwagon?

Pit crew – surgery in progress. I’d do this for FREE. Photo by Mike Hartley
