Sometimes I allow my mind to go riding. Not random stuff, riding a motorcycle. Watching countryside pass by, the lines on the road twisting, feeling elevation changes, the wind and sound of the engine in tune with my wrist movements.
I’m glad I had that seat time. It’s comforting to know I scratched that itch. I would have regretted never riding. It’s given me good memories and smiles. I still come to attention hearing a V-Twin roar by. I still pause when I see a bike I like and wish I had some seat time on like this one below.
I always road with a helmet but when I’m mind riding, I don’t notice one. I feel my arms extended forward and up. I feel the pressure of the wind on my chest.
I hear the wind change speed as I change speed. It’s always a smooth ride with nobody near my rear fender or merging into my lane with me still in it. Nobody pulling out in front of me or flicking a cigarette or drink out the window.
Just that nice upright ride of a cruiser, navigating good roads at leisurely speeds are my minds view now. Sometimes it will wander when I see a picture like this one. Other times it’s the sound of Harley’s coming and going from the Woodstock Inn down a mile down the road. Or a neighbor that has the same model I had and that sound of those pipes when he comes back from a ride.
I don’t miss it as badly as I used to. It’s more of a great experience that I can recall and hopefully will remember forever.
There must have been a lot of good rides vs bad ones because the memories are nice.
