To each their own

How important is spirituality in your life? – A rather touchy question from the daily writing prompt.

I feel as if I’ve addressed this before in a previous blog post, but I’ll give it another go. I consider myself a spiritual person but in my own way. Do I go to church, not much at all anymore. I was raised Catholic but have my differences with that church. Even though it seems to be evolving.

I try to act and live in a Christian manor. I’m not always successful but I always return to that base.

Religion is such a volatile subject for many reasons. I have friends from many denominations and even atheist or two. Rarely has that ever been an issue till someone makes the mistake of projecting their belief structure on someone else.

I experienced that once and it’s not pleasant and changed our friendship.

I’m tired of wars in Gods name. I’m tired of pretend people of faith. I’m tired of people using the church to condemn others. I’m tired of fake presidents selling bibles as a grift.

Flawed faith

How important is spirituality in your life? – Wow you’re going there again. I thought there was a recent delve into this area from the Daily Writing prompt if my memory is correct.

The Oxford definition of spirituality – the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.

I would say that by this definition, it’s very important to me. And I believe I’m doing a better job at making that part of every day now.

I have many faults and flaws. I try to work daily on improving them. Seeing so-called spiritual people preach one thing on Sunday and then act immorally the rest of the week and then hold themselves up as holy’er than thou makes me sick.

Or if you go stand in front of a church holding a bible upside down pretending to be spiritual.

It might be more interesting to ask and see how people define spirituality.
