A good 3

The daily writing prompt wants to know – What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

I’m going to break this down a little differently.

My Better Half. I remember the first dinner she made me when we started dating. It was at her parents home. It made me feel special. She has always fixed a wonderful Sunday dinner. Every week there is something special. She is something special.

My Daughter. We meet after she gets off from her work as a teacher and have dinner together. Memories of driving to her college and sharing a meal. And her smile as we ate pizza on the upper deck of Tony’s overlooking the boardwalk and ocean.

My Son. Going to breakfast at the old diner after getting our haircuts when he was young. And now when we would meet on Sunday at my favorite rib place for lunch. It’s been a while since we’ve done that. Expanding families will do that to one’s time.

Bonus meal – Each week, well 90+% of the time, my 2 best friends and I gather for a meal, have a lot of laughs, blow off steam, go on about our jobs, talk about family and solve the worlds problems all in one evening. The Gang of Three Brothers.

My Favorite meals can’t be had without my Favorite Company Above, no matter what the dish. Thank you for sharing the food and good times.

Dinner Bell

What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals? – A tough one from the daily writing prompt.

That’s a tall order. It’s not often the family gathers for a meal now. Holidays and vacations and the occasional cookout. And everyone has slightly different tastes. So, let’s see where I can find the common ground.

Well, after sitting and thinking for a few minutes the answer was right there in the first paragraph. And with Thanksgiving only a week away I’ll start right there. Now there is a meal. My better half prepares a feast for us, turkey, ham and so many fixings and deserts and appetizers.

The smell of the home that day is something I look forward to soaking up each year. The few years we haven’t had it here, it hasn’t felt right, I’ve missed the smells. I scale down on eating a few days before so I can go for it that day.

Vacation family meals. Wow, those are the tops. One because we get to eat as a family (children and grandchildren) for a week. Being from and vacationing in Maryland we do seafood. And the seafood of Maryland is the Blue Crab. Oh, we might mix in a shrimp or scallop appetizer or some of those as a side to the main crab dish. Sometimes a fillet which spurs the combination called Steak and Cake. (as in crabcake).

Steamed Crabs, Crab Toast, Crab Imperial, Crab Soup, Crab Claws, Crème of Crab Soup, Crab Dip, Crab Pretzels, Crabcakes, Crab balls, Stuffed Shrimp, Crab Wontons, Softshell Crab Sandwich, Rockfish with Crab Imperial over it. I could go on but it’s making me hungry and there isn’t any place selling crabs that is open yet.

Okay, last but not least. I love grilling out for the family. I’m going to make that offer more frequently next summer. But we do enjoy whatever I’m throwing on the grill. Most of the time its pretty normal like burgers and dogs or sausages with peppers and onions also grilled. Chicken and steaks are great and some salmon on the grill is great.

This was easier than going through and naming each person’s favorite meal. If they read this, I hope this is also their favorite list.
