The daily prompt wants to know – What is the best excuse you have heard lately?
The one I gave my friend last night when I said my mouth hurts from the dentist appointment yesterday afternoon and I was staying home. It was honest and to the point.
On the other hand, I didn’t listen to the liar last night trying to find excuses on why he lost an election that he can’t admit he lost. A sorry excuse for a human being.
One of the better excuses I heard while managing people was a call that came in early one morning stating that he was going to be late. When I asked what time, he thought he could make it he said, “Well, I’m in jail and I have to see a judge so I’m not really sure.”
I’m trying to find an excuse not to cut the grass later today. The smoke from the wildfires in the air would be a good one. It’s going to feel like the upper 90s today would also qualify as a good excuse.
But when I think of excuses I think back to my very early days at work when managers were direct. So, when I gave an excuse for being late, he spoke and said, “excuses are like a**holes, everyone got one, and you just used yours, so don’t be late again.” And from then on, I’ve been early to work and rarely sick.
