For a week

The daily prompt asks – If you could switch lives with a famous person for a week, who would it be and why?

My first thought was why would I want to do that. One being away from my life for a week means I might miss something important in my own life. Second, I don’t aspire to fame. It comes with a price. And even for a week that’s means with the good comes the bad.

Your loss of privacy, the constant demands of fame. With that fame sometimes comes fortune and with that comes everybody who wants something or a part of it.

You have to sort out people who want to be true friends and those who want to be next to famous people. That part is easy now, if people hang with me, they are my friends.

Even if I play along it would be very hard to choose. I thought about my favorite baseball player right now, Aaron Judge. I thought it would be cool to experience that natural talent and skill he has, plus he seems like a nice person. But then I thought about coming to bat in Yankee Stadium and the few drunks would say something stupid and I’d respond, “hey fat boy, come on down here and do better” and I’d ruin his good reputation which I don’t want to do.

So next.

I love comedy and thought about experiencing the brilliance of writing, creating and performing and getting those great laughs. And then I thought about the tortured souls of three of my favorites Robin Williams, John Belushi and Richard Pryor and I’m not sure I want that pain.

Next

Ah, Muhammad Ali – One of the most known people on the planet at one time. I’d want to know what it’s like to have that motivation and drive he had. That focus and physical talent and skill combined in the ring. But also, that mindset in life and following his own path. Speaking what was on his mind and following his own convictions. Of course, before all those blows took its toll, which is a heavy price to pay for those early years.

Well, I’m back to my original answer. None. For the simple reason that it’s not specifically specified which week of their lives you would be switching with. For example, if I wanted to be Richard Pryor, I wouldn’t want to be the week he set himself on fire and nearly died.

So, I’ll continue happily in anonymity. I wouldn’t want to miss that facetime with my children and grandchildren for any fame.

Now if you want to give me a week at a bed and breakfast with a front porch overlooking the ocean and a sandy 100-foot path to it, I’m all in.

A charming porch with white furniture, featuring a welcome sign and an entrance sign pointing to a parlor. The porch has decorative trim and is surrounded by greenery.
