Go west they said

We took a trip to Frederick Maryland today, which is west of us. And what a beautiful place to walk on a sunny but very comfortable day.

And a good opportunity to take my camera out.

Our first trip to The Wine Kitchen and a wonderful lunch outside. Both service and food were excellent. And we will be going back to try dinner someday soon.

We walked the Carroll Creek path which is 1.5 miles after lunch. We will incorporate the park next time, which I think I read this is a 3 mile walk total. We also walked a bit of the town.

There were a small number of lilies out, but peak season is July and August I believe.

The skies were that indescribable shade of blue today. Because as the day moved along so did the shades of blue.

And as the sign below says, “FOREVER FESTIVE FREDERICK” and it does seem like a festive place. I always leave happy.

FredBrick

The town of Frederick Maryland is a great place to visit. Some more images from this past Monday.

There was a store there called Brick and Mortar Mercantile that we enjoyed. I’m also a fan of The Candy Kitchen on N. Market St.

Deeper Reflection

Having more time to reflect is a nice perk. Avoiding, mistakes of the past, and taking advantage of knowledge gained along the way. Knowing the important things are love and connections. Helping enrich the lives of those close and sometimes perfect strangers.

I’m focusing better on what I’m trying to accomplish. Inspired more each day to create and produce. I look forward to getting up each day like never before. An appreciation for all I’ve been given, in length of time and opportunities.

So it’s a great start to a Tuesday morning. One that I won’t waste. I don’t want to miss an interaction, a smile, a laugh, a tear, or a picture.

I must look like a child when I’m shooting, like watching a young one discover. I try to think about that when I’m photographing. I’m wandering, looking in all directions, stopping suddenly when something catches my interest or I hear a sound. I can look at something that nobody else sees anything to look at but I see a spaceship in how those branches in the tree merge. I look at the sky and see a pattern in the clouds or a bird. And down at my feet for no specific reason and, walk forward at the same time. I can park myself in a spot taking in everything around me or run forward at full speed towards the screening fire engine pulling out of the station.

Not as fast as I used to be, I didn’t catch it leaving. Photo by Mike Hartley

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • That bright sky this morning is hiding a deceptively cold start.
  • You can sleep in a recliner. But you will regret it.
  • I’m going to pit my smarts against a young child today. The outcome is in doubt.
  • Don’t you hate remembering something you needed to do a week ago and still not having the time to get to it immediately?

Tickets, please

We punched our tickets to Frederick Maryland today. I’m trying to get us out of the house once a week at least to visit a Maryland town. Not that we don’t get out beyond that, but something special just for the two of us. Maybe a lunch or dinner at a nice spot and a long walk together.

It also gives me a few minutes to photograph, which I love. And sometimes my better half finds some stores to venture into, allowing me even more opportunities.

We had a great lunch at Brewers Alley with wonderful service and will add them to our list. We looked at the Tasting Room menu but we had eaten there before.

The walk is good except you have to watch your step in town. There are a great number of uneven spots so be careful old folk. That is not the case for the walkways along Carrol Creek. They are smooth, wide, and flat. A good place to run also.

We like walking in this town and will visit again this summer. It might be a good spot for some night shots also.

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • Spring has sprung. So has the sale of Kleenex.
  • Got a good bit of exercise in today. I’m going to set tomorrow on repeat.
  • There seem to be more birds around my home this season. I love it till I go out to my car.
  • Pain is not welcome, but apparently, the message has not been received.
