something is Bugging me

Classics from my youth.

It’s nice to see people still restoring these VW Beetles.

Lots of people learned how to drive a stick on one of these.

I think I first road in one in the late 60s.

Shots are from the Rally for the Wreaths held this past Saturday. Supporting the Wreaths Across America organization. The same ones who bring the Wreaths to my parents at Arlington National Cemetery each winter for the holiday. Saves me donating online. Plus, it’s better to see a smiling face when I give.

All Aboard

Not the most aerodynamic front end but a classic doesn’t need to be, does it? I remember seeing The Bus back in the early 60s for the first time and was puzzled. A few years later as people would paint them up you would see a crowd having fun in them, and then I got it.

A comedian I like (Fluffy) has a stunning collection of them.

While not for everyone they have their devotees. A 74 above I believe. Photo by Mike Hartley

Loving Monday Mornings

I used to hate Monday mornings. They were a waste and I felt like crap. Usually, I was up for 24+ hours from Sunday morning spending family time during the day and then working an 11-hour shift overnight till 6 am Monday.

A few hours sleep and I would rise between 10 am and noon, not even feeling human. That was the routine for the last decade. I was commenting to my better half how much I enjoy Sundays now not dreading that Monday wipeout.

We also said that we still get that rushed feeling just before dinnertime on Sunday to have the meal and a few minutes to digest it before stepping into mission control or time to get in the car and drive 50 miles into the heart of DC. Even now, 2 months after that challenge that feeling persists. I guess some routines get ingrained in you.

I sleep on Sunday nights now. Not well but no more all-nighters in my senior years, unless it’s for fun.

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • I make the best use of time when I think what if this were my last day?
  • As soon as I step into a warm shower I’m a thankful person.
  • Time to wind up that little go-cart and go for a spin. I missed the monthly MD Miata meetup yesterday, didn’t want to get anyone sick if I was still contagious.
  • Wouldn’t it be a great day if I completed the to-do list for the day and had fun at the same time?
