In your grill

As I read the many news sites online I’m so disappointed in humanity sometimes. Not in what is written but in the comments to things that are written. No matter from which angle or topic or source. The amount of anger, contempt, hate, stupidity and malice that I read rattles me.

I think we have turned a corner where that kind of behavior is almost becoming acceptable. It’s not their message that I have issue with. It’s not that they disagree with maybe my view. It’s not that I don’t respect the 1st amendment. It’s that it is done is such a vulgar and insulting way and much worse at times.

Basically its the type of thing that stops conversation. It seems to also encourage and embolden others to be more mean-spirited to keep upping the ante. Luckily being below the radar with my writing here I’ve been able to avoid such hostility, but I’m sure it coming someday. Because I express my opinion once in a while. If you asked my employer he might say I express my opinion constantly.

I guess it’s a statement of our society. We are totally less tolerant today than we have been in a long time and it appears it’s about to swing the other way. We are going back to the wild west days it seems. Every man for himself. We all know there are too many guns out there with too many nuts with them in their hands. Don’t get me wrong. I love guns and shooting. I go to the range often with my Son. But I’m also scared because I am not licensed to carry one around and I know people who shouldn’t have one ignore that law also and have one out and about with the rest of us.

Well I don’t intend to change my ways at this age. Mom always said if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. School taught me of different ideas of thought, learning and debate (peacefully and respectfully). Life taught me about people. There are some sick, mean, hostile and violent people on this earth. Most of the time before technology, you didn’t have a chance in hell to be exposed to them. Now they can be with you each day.

And if you don’t find them online, just get in your car and drive in a crowed metropolis and see what I mean. The only saving grace is we outnumber them still but its getting close.

Me, I’m just going to remain in happy obscurity here in my small town and small place on the internet. And try to show and appreciate all the opportunities I have and have been given and worked for. It’s easy to get sucked down into that negative vibe. I’ve slipped into it many times. But as you look, it can be fairly ugly and I don’t want to be part of that.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
