Well, what a depressing thought. The news reports say sitting is bad for our hearts. I was looking forward to more seat time as I aged and here I’m being told that isn’t any good for me. I mean isn’t the reason they make those rocking chairs you see for sale in front of the Cracker Barrel Restaurants for us old timers to plant our behinds in for long periods of time on the porch watching grandchildren tear up our yards? Well I don’t think of myself as an old-timer yet but sometimes my body puts up a good argument.
So what to do about this dilemma? Yeah I know common sense says stay active and stay healthy. Makes a lot of sense. Has a proven track record of helping you live longer. I fully endorse it. As a matter of fact I’m on a mission to get off my ass for a while and get a better balance of exercise and seat time. I found the key (just kidding) to the treadmill and I’m going to put some time in on that every day from now on. At least a half hour a day if not more.
I’ll looking forward also to spending some time on a bike seat. Oh nothing like the guys/gals above but just some casual beach rides. And while I’m getting rid of my old weight bench, I’m keeping a few small dumbbells and the curl bar to keep some (excuse me) get some tone to this body. You see life is about balance and mine has been out of that in terms of physical fitness for a while.
So here is to a new initiative to get and stay healthy. I’ve been doing better on the mental part for a bit now so its time to drag the body along for the ride.
