Nostalgic

A daily writing prompt asks “What makes you feel nostalgic?” Well, let’s see what rolls off the top of my head this morning.

Looking at photographs of my children when they were young. Hearing the sound of a strong V8 cranking up. A blooming garden knowing how much my mother enjoyed them. Having a cherry ice cream soda at Dumsers in Ocean City. Going down a winding road reminds me of my motorcycle days. Giving my wife flowers always feels like the first time.

Walking into buildings I used to work at. Talking to an old friend. Hearing many old songs I love, some taking me back to memories of concerts. Looking at some of my old cameras. Using old power tools. Looking at some of my old baseball cards or mementos.

Lots of times when out at dinner with just my better half, I’ll remember dinners from long ago or she will and we will just smile and nod and say what made it special.

Of course, when I’m with my friends we always remember good times, lots of times triggered by a phrase someone used, an event being recalled or toast being made or an anniversary, or again a song being played or an image on the TV. Not that we don’t look and plan forward, we just have a lot of history to feel nostalgic about.

But as always – Look forward to better days and more memories to be made ahead.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.
