We’re going to need a bigger tent

The Daily Writing prompt asks – Have you ever been camping?

Does sleeping out overnight in line for concert tickets count? If so I have several of those experiences. Some youngsters might question why one would sleep outside the box office overnight for concert tickets. That is how you got the best seats back in the 70s.

Camping, brought back a few memories. I had to check to see if my Boy Scout Cook kit with the case, was still in my possession. And it is.

I might have to give this to my grandson to beat on. Bad photo by Mike Hartley, hey I’m half asleep at the switch here.

When I was very young we went camping a few times. In my teens, I slept under the stars a few nights or on the hood of a car, maybe once or twice in a tent that I vaguely remember. I’ve cooked over an open fire in the woods.

But not in the traditional sense of camping. I love being outside, with nature, but I’m also into comfort at this age. Hey, who knows, maybe I’ll turn over a new leaf late in life.

I like tents I can walk under. Photo by Mike Hartley

Camping is probably out but a little hiking might be in my wheelhouse.

With a lifetime and a half in the Newspaper industry I'm preparing for my retirement career as an Artist, Writer, Photographer and Video content provider. I'm a proud father of two wonderful children and I'm still married to the first girl I fell in love with and probably only one that would have me.

  1. Yes, I have camped out twice. It’s an experience never to be repeated, just not for me.

  2. I sometimes wonder how many comments you receive, mostly because we’re all so spoiled by other setups where you merely click to “like.” I’m spoiled like that. Fill out a whole form? Two whole lines? But I’m still a faithful reader so it’s time I congratulate you on your retirement. I, like you, have many interests to enjoy and work to do. Life, so far, does not stagnate. And there’s much to enjoy! I also like your reliable link to our old Patuxent days, even though the news is often sad these days. I hope more of us are blessed with vim and longevity. Keep it goin’!

    • So good to hear from you Jan. I hope you are well and I’m glad you also you have a lot of interest. I don’t get many comments, but that is OK. The ones I get from friends and family are just fine. Kim and I were discussing another get together before they tear the building down. Please take care Jan.
