What technology would you be better off without, why? – Now there is a question from the Daily Writing prompt to contemplate. Just a few thoughts off the top of my head below.
Military and weapon technology. If we weren’t spending a fortune on these we could solve a lot of the other worlds problems.
I’m no big fan of electronic/video games. I grew up in a generation where the game Pong first came out and I was already a teenager at that point and used to playing tons of real games, but none attached to a screen or controller. And I was very happy and learned a lot more than having my face in a screen for enjoyment. I’m still not a gamer of the computer type. Nothing against those who enjoy it. But I feel a lot is lost in that type of game. Like direct interaction with others on a personal level.
AI or Artificial Intelligence scares the hell out of me. The potential for very bad things is now here. We are experienced with dealing with each other, but we haven’t fought machines yet.
Smartphones – just a personal bias here. I’m so sick of people with their faces glued to these things.
In most cases it’s not the technology itself that is bad, it’s how we apply or use it that perverts it. IMHO
