It’s good to look deep into the mirror once in a while. A good chance to be honest with yourself. A chance to see how many grey hairs are moving up from the beard to the scalp. A time to see the lines that life has left. Maybe catch the sight of a surgical scar. A time to evaluate how much life is left in those eyes.
A holiday weekend is upon us. Time for a cruise and maybe a stop at the town ice cream shop later. I hope to fire up the grill and cook some burgers and grill some scallops.
It’s funny how things changed so quickly. I remember being giddy with joy at having holidays. I worked a great number of them the decade before I retired and many before that. So having a holiday like most people was this strange thing for me.
Now in my second year, I’m taking that joy for granted already. Weekdays, weekends, holidays kind of blend together. Which is okay with me because every day is a holiday. Unless there’s a doctors appointment.
Time to step away from the computer and knock out a few chores before grilling and a spirited ride in the go-cart.

- Music strikes many emotional chords in me.
- I can’t believe it’s the traditional end of summer already. I’m disappointed in my beach attendance.
- Would the world lose its mind if the internet went down?
- If we ever sell this house, I’m going to have to cut out two bedroom doorframes that we have used to mark the grandchildren’s growth.
