What a great time in Ocean City the last few days. It was the Endless Summer Car Show, and it was the largest attendance I’ve seen in a while. Even with the foul weather coming up the coast and Sundays awards and activities moved to Saturday, it was a winner of a week.
My better half and I went down in the Miata to Muscle Car Heaven. Bike week can be loud, but those twins can’t complete V8s with little or no exhaust restrictions. It was music to my ears. The smell of high-octane fuel being burned and the smiles and acknowledgements of many wonderful works of automotive art.
I think the range of years I saw was from 1930 to present day. From classic VWs to Pro Steet Rods with cams so radical it sounds like it’s going to stall any moment. The number of classic trucks seems to be on the increase also. Caddy’s and Corvettes, Coupes and Customs, Camaros and Caminos, Pony cars and Pick Up trucks, Judges and Jeeps, and anything on 4 wheels, side by side up and down Coastal Highway.
The longest Boardwalk Parade I’ve seen by far was on Friday morning. It went on for two and half hours. Met a father and son from PA and we guessed years and models against one another for a while and had many laughs and stories to share.
Even though it was dry Thursday and Friday, it was very overcast a majority of those two days. Woke to some scattered short showers on Saturday morning but the sun was trying to make a short peek before that, Nor Easter comes up the coast. When I left, I heard 2-4 inches of rain and 50-60 mph winds for Sunday. I think it’s been downgraded a bit now.
I was just looking at a few webcams from OC between 4-5am and they are bouncing around so the wind must be whipping. And that was verified because I just looked at the cam for the inlet parking lot which is vacant except for the sands blowing across it looking like ghosts flying over it. Kind of ere. And now after 5 am the rain has started.
Anyway, it was a great time and one I’ll make a pilgrimage for again.
