I figure that title will gain some attention. Bacon is one of my favorite things to eat. Yes, I know the health issues and that is why I don’t eat as much as I used to.
But this post isn’t about my love of bacon. It’s about switching my longtime brand favorite to another. I’ve been eating Smithfield bacon for many decades. But I’ve changed to Oscar Meyer because of quality and manufacturing issues with Smithfield. The first thing I started to notice was how poorly the bacon was being cut within the same package.
Next was the consistency and quality of the bacon itself. I’ve had a few packs in the last few years that have tasted different or been for poorly cut sections or trimmed poorly. One thing that always won me over with Smithfield was quality and consistency. Both have suffered and I’ve found another one that doesn’t.
So, I pulled a pack of Oscar Meyer from the fridge, and I grilled that up this morning.
Another observation from the two types. Smithfield always produces 25% more bacon grease than Oscar Meyer.
And the final nail in the coffin of Smithfield this morning was my better half saying, “these tastes really good.”
