Collections

Do you have any collections? – An interesting question from the daily writing prompt.

If you asked my better half if I had any collections, she would probably say yes – junk.

Over time I’ve had a few collections, most of them are gone now. Like most young boys of my generation, we used to collect baseball cards. I had a nice one. But those are gone now except for a few that I’ll pass down one day.

I still have a collection of old cameras from the family and my history with photography. I have my collection of art, mostly photography.

Oh, I still have several record albums from my youth. And a few beer steins and goblets.

I have a collection of 4 shells I picked up at the beach over 3 decades ago. It was an especially difficult time personally and professionally. I remember finding them and holding onto them thinking this is us. From the day we came home from the shore they have been on my desk in front of me since then. They give me strength because they represent my family.

I almost forgot about this one, I haven’t touched it in decades. I have a stamp collection from my youth that I built on from what my mom and dad started. That I still have and one day will organize.

My most important collection is my memories and the personal things my children have given me over the years.

Little collectables

Do you have any collections? – The Daily Writing prompt asks.

Why yes I have a few I guess. I used to collect old coins but only have a few left. Same with the baseball cards, got rid of most of them. I have an old stamp collection stored away from my youth.

I have a collection of various sea shells from my mom. I have a collection of polished stones that my young granddaughter loves to pick a few from each visit.

I guess you could call my photographs and artwork a collection. I have a small collection of old family cameras. I have a collection of family mementos.

There is a small collection of pictures and trinkets from the newspaper career.

The best and most valuable collection I have is the memories of life. And I add to that all the time.
