Write it down

The daily writing prompt asks me this morning – What do you enjoy most about writing?

I just enjoy communicating. I write to my children a few times a week because the time for calls sometimes is rushed.

Writing sometimes helps me get my thoughts and priorities together and in order.

I like it when someone enjoys a random thought or caption on a picture. Or maybe one of the thoughts I’ll express here.

I’d really like to get a book or two done and that will be a real writing challenge for me.

It would be great to write something that inspired a family member or friend or even a stranger. And maybe even myself, occasionally.

I make it one of my daily hobbies now that I’m retired and it brings me enjoyment.

Writing enjoyment

What do you enjoy most about writing? – The Daily Writing prompt inquires.

I love that it gives me something to look forward to each day. I like the opportunity to possibly write something meaningful to someone.

My writing would surprise my mother and my high school English teachers but make them both proud I believe. I happened to have failed 9th grade English and had to take summer school to make it up. One of my mother’s many skills and jobs was a proofreader and a damn fine one who I’ll never measure up to without the help of technology.

The challenge of writing a book or books is in front of me. I’ve been blogging for a decade now and have written over a million words here. I will most likely continue it for the rest of my days because it allows me to express myself.

I don’t know if you have heard the adage “think before you talk” or “engage brain before mouth” or the variations of that thought. Sometimes I’m good at expressing myself verbally, sometimes not. My emotions can override my brain.

Writing allows me time to think and hopefully express my real thoughts in a well-communicated manner. While at the same time writing with feeling and emotion. I like the opportunity to pair the right photo I’ve taken with the right words or thoughts.

Writing has moved me to read more and that is also enlightening.

Ops, I might have rambled on too long answering a simple question. Onto the next post or chapter. Enjoy the day.

If you’re lucky, you get to write about life or anything you want. Photo by Mike Hartley
