Leadership

The daily writing prompt wants to know – What makes a good leader? – A question I answered in a post from my own experience as a leader and being managed by other leaders called History Has Taught Me.

I liked reading that again. One of my better observations. It took me back to some days and situations that I tied to the word leadership. Being retired now I’m leading myself and maybe the family still.

But I’ve thought about getting more involved in some causes and maybe some of my background could be helpful.

I will add that what we have parading as leadership here in the states is a joke and should be removed before we have the second coming of the 1940s. And a message to the rest of the world. While it may not seem like it, many of us are working to change this direction.

Leading

Do you see yourself as a leader? – Now there is an interesting question from the daily writing prompt.

Yes, I see myself as a leader. I try to lead by example. For instance, the saying on the tee shirt I have says, “Those who say it can’t be done, shouldn’t interrupt the people doing it.” I noticed one of my friends (who’s the president of a large company) reading it and smiling.

I’ve been in lead positions professionally as a manager. Even a part owner at one time. I try to lead my family in the right direction.

Leadership is stressful. It’s taking responsibility beyond yourself. It’s a ton of work. You will never please everyone. If you’re a leader you better be able to communicate well.

Life is simpler now. The only leadership responsibilities I have now are leading grandchildren from one game to another, when we are watching them.

Then again, I might get active again and try to replace the leadership of this country.

Leading

Do you see yourself as a leader? – There is an interesting question from the daily writing prompt.

Yes and no. I try to lead by example. I have had leadership roles at times professionally. But I’m probably more comfortable with others leading.

Having a great team where everyone is contributing, succeeding, and growing is a tremendous experience and one I’ve had the opportunity of a few times. There are other times when leadership has been more difficult.

I’m a dad and granddad so those always come with leadership roles.

And now that I think about it I’m the lead photographer, editor, designer, sculptor, and writer in my retirement so yeah, I still see myself as a leader, at least in my little world.

Leadower

Are you a leader or a follower? – The Daily Writing prompt is digging again.

It all depends on the situation and company I’m in. I’d say I’m a little of both overall. It’s good to practice both I feel. It gives a nice balance to life. Plus you get a better perspective of the pros and cons of each.

I’ve been a leader in my professional life as a manager and team member. But also a follower as I learned the ropes from mentors.

I’m married so obviously I’m a follower. But a father also, so a leader.

If I’m on a straight road I’m a follower. If it’s the twisties, I’m a leader.

In friendships, I’d say the average lean towards a follower. But again, depending on the friend and situation.

I’d love to be a leading blogger in the future, but I so enjoy following many other talented people.

If you are a follower, be careful where others may lead you, it may not be the destination you were thinking about.
