Yes

I used to dread Sundays. I wake up on Sundays with a positive attitude now. Relaxed and thinking of how special they feel recently.

Even retired now for 11 months that chill up my spine when I wake with that old dread of having to stay up for 24 hours or more. Sundays are family and fun days. They were also the day I started working around 7pm and got off the Monday morning around 6am.

It was the switch day that I went back into night shift mode. I can’t recall staying up for 24 hours or more since I retired. But it’s something I used to do weekly. And that is why I still always am aware what day Sunday is.

I suspect it will fade in more time, but boy did it leave a lasting impression. My life is less of a roller coaster now and I’m thankful for that.

Random Thoughts of the Day

  • I have a new theme song for a while. Hold On by the group Yes
  • People who define professionals by the tools they use and not the results don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground.
  • Smile when you can’t. It confuses the hell out of them.
  • Past mid-November and I got to put the top down on the car. What could be better than the sun shining brightly also.
  • I created some sawdust this morning. We will soon see what becomes of what isn’t dust.
  • There are some entitled people that just need to be taught some important lessons.
  • I have a UV Filter to test out this week.
  • Those winds were howling again yesterday.
  • I’m guessing the men questioning women in combat wouldn’t have the guts to go up against them.

Sunday dread

I woke this morning remembering how unsettling Sundays used to be. Like most people, it signified the end of the weekend. Only that in my case right after Sunday dinner, my workweek started. Which meant being up for 24-27 hours straight.

Sunday I would fit in the last of the family activities and home/yard chores into the morning and afternoon. Dinner and then work overnight till 6 or 7 am Monday. That was the beginning of my workweek.

For the last decade, I would pull an all-nighter after being up all day to flip back into night shift mode for the rest of the week. Then on Thursday at 7 am when my workweek would end I’d sleep for 3-4 hours in the morning after work. Stay up till 11 pm, sleep, and wake up the next morning, to get back into a day mode for the weekend with family and friends.

Because I quickly discovered nobody would be around to interact with me if I stayed on a night shift schedule throughout the weekend.

When I started that schedule, I was a bit younger, but in the last years, it took a heavy toll. But I knew I had to hold on to get where we wanted to be.

So here I am retired now and Sundays have returned to a normal schedule. When I get tired this evening I can go to sleep instead of war trying to flip my body and brain into some twisted switch to nocturnal existence.

Life is good again.
